I visited and documented residential structures from over 30 villages during the fieldwork phase of my masters dissertation on the traditional houses of western Sumatra. These were consolidated and made into archetypal computer models for purposes of architectural analyses in relation to their socio-cultural beliefs, and to support my conclusions of theoretical concepts of “raft” and “roof” as major structures for vernacular houses. Together with Tim Bradley, with whom I measured a Minangkabau house, our photos, slides, drawings (both computer-generated and hand-drawn) were exhibited at the 4th level of the then main Coffee Club outlet at Boat Quay. A 3-D computer modelling of five houses was also kindly generated by Dr. Luis Serra and displayed at the exhibition.
