For me, the most heartening experience was to see three up-and-coming theatre groups collaborate for a Singapore Arts Festival event, staged at the World Trade Centre. The play’s contexts, set in Singapore, were familiar to me, but it was good to perceive them from the playwrights’ perspectives as well as from the actors. The set design was based on the 4-room HDB flat that had been my home from 1973-1984, in its intended spatial arrangement. The rectilinearity of its detailed articulation was to hint at the modular nature of such flats.
