The Department of Architecture and Building at the Singapore Polytechnic commenced local architectural education in Singapore in 1958, and eventually the curriculum was transferred into the university. I joined the university as a lecturer in the year 1998, in time to celebrate 40 years of its existence and co-curated an exhibition with Dr. Wong Yunn Chii at NUS. Research was conducted to make sense of its overall history, as well as attempts to reconnect with alma mater, many of whom have become renowned architects in the region. It was a challenging exhibition to put together since nothing of that scale was attempted prior to it, and so it was deeply satisfying to be part of it.
